 The Opportunity

We are seeking a Vice President - Technology to lead, manage, mentor, and build game changing solutions for our customers. The ideal candidate will be someone with a great deal of experience operating at a high level making significant contributions, architect and design solutions that are strategic for customers and build on the latest technologies and patterns. Utilizing in-depth knowledge of infrastructure, open source technologies, and software engineering he/she will develop the strategy, achieve business and monitor execution towards the target architecture. Vice President - Technology will play a critical role in building our new Development Centre at Pune and will be a part of the Senior Management team.

The Requirements

  • 6 to 10 year's successful experience in leading software engineering teams.
  • Must have compelling leadership style that includes exceptional people management skills, handling business and technology
  • A mix of Start-up and large company success and experience in leading and collaborating in a globally distributed organization.
  • Experience working in a best practices organization and will have a passion for developing and monitoring teams
  • Demonstrated success in establishing a streamlined software development process including solid documentation and exceptional functional quality and reliability.
  • Work closely with other departments and disciplines to define the technical requirements for the runtime, pipeline and tools and manage the efforts to build, test, and improve them
  • Ability to attract, recruit, lead, reward & motivate the industry's best talent and simultaneously have the technical capability to ensure we are building customer oriented solutions
  • Must be able to challenge the team/organization while holding them accountable for their commitments.
  • Experience in communicating internally and externally to understand requirements, and to describe software product features
  • Keep updated with technology advances and propose new innovations that may benefit the project
  • Proactively identify challenges and risks to the project and offer solutions

    Technical Qualification
  • Experience with full-stack web development
  • Obsessed about code clarity and writing
  • Strong understanding of Object Oriented Concepts
  • Extensive experience with one or more of the following - PHP, Python, YII, Laravel, Phalcon, Docker,Symfony etc.
  • Experience with one or more of the following - HTML / Javascript / AJAX / AngularJS / ReactJS / Javascript / Typescript / CSS / BootStrap 3 /JSON
  • Version Control - Git , SVN
  • Database - MySql, MariaDB etc. Knowledge of NoSql, Mongo DB, Hadoop will be plus point.
  • Good Knowledge of LAMP/LNMP stack
  • Good to have an understanding the concept of distributed application deployment.
  • Knowledge of ML lifecycle and algorithms is good to have.

Key responsibilities:

· Ensure the platform maintains 99.5% uptime. Work towards a target of platform availability to 99.99%

· Responsible for the overall health of all SABA Cloud Product portfolios.

· Technical analysis and resolution of customer issues; balance technology needs with business, customers' needs and demands.

· Responsible for all technology stacks that supports a customer service. This includes the Network, Server HW, and Operating System, Middleware technologies, Java and Web applications.

· Responsible to correlate logs and events to pin point a technical issue.

· Responsible to analyze monitoring alerts and reports from New Relic, Nagios, Web Robot, Splunk and home grown tools.

· In the event of a customer outage, engage with different teams in a technical conference bridge to quickly analyze and resolve the customer issue. Until the customer issue is resolved provide periodic updates to SABA Operations, Support, Client Executives and key leaders in the Enterprise.

· Responsible to ensure customer is notified on any performance issues or downtime. In case of a customer outage, take ownership for the root cause analysis and complete them within the SLA.

· Handle customer incidents and requests within the SLA. Wherever SLA breach may occur, proactively set and manage customer expectation by partnering with SABA Support representative.

· Automation of standard tasks related to System, DB and Application management. Automate the shutdown of physical and virtual servers across the datacenter.

· Evaluating new technologies and provide a recommendation to management including planning and execution of proof of concept activities.

· Engage and support datacenter migration projects. Assist in task automation activities specific to the project.

· Engage and support key infrastructure initiatives related to Open Stack, Object Store etc

Required Skills:

· 7-10 years' experience building and managing a high-transactional RHEL, CentOS 24x7 production environment

· Excellent knowledge and expertise in Linux Administration, Shell/Perl/Python Scripting, Automations.

· Hands on experience on iSCSI, NFS Storage configurations, Multipathing , LVM, Mail Servers configurations.

· Hands on Experience with Unix Scripting, diagnostics & troubleshooting on Linux environments.

· Experience in automating routine tasks and scripting automations.

· Experience in Linux Servers installation and configuration with PXE boot, Cobbler.

· Good Understanding of Networking concepts, portchannels and vLAN configuratoins on Linux.

· Experience in performance tuning of Linux servers and Virtual sessions and management of servers resources between virtual machines.

· Experience in backup and recovery of Virtual machines and virtual servers.

    BENGALURU: The number of students from India enrolled in graduate level programmes in computer science and engineering in the United States has declined by 21 per cent from 2016 to 2017, according to a study by the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP), based on data from the US Department of Homeland Security.
    The NFAP said the number of international students enrolled in US universities declined by approximately 4% between 2016 and 2017, and more than half of this could be attributed to fewer individuals from India studying computer science and engineering at the graduate level in 2017.

    Indian graduate students completing degrees in science and engineering at US universities are a major source of talent for US firms.

    The report of the NFAP, a non-profit, non-partisan public policy research organisation in Virginia, indicated that the Donald Trump administration's restrictive visa and work policies had affected the prospects of attracting and retaining bright foreign students making a significant contribution to the US economy. The report said the Narendra Modi government's demonetisation move - which led to severe cash shortage - might have played a role in the sharp decline in Indian student enrolment. But it ruled this out as a major cause, considering that the number of Indian students going to the US for undergraduate programmes in computer science and engineering increased by about 740 .

KOCHI: With the several major IT companies cutting down on recruitments from many of the engineering campuses in Ernakulam, the colleges are now looking at BPOs to ensure that their students get a job soon after the course.
However, unlike the IT companies that is offering increased salary this year compared to earlier years, the salary offered by BPOs is as low as Rs 12,000 to Rs 13,000. Though not encouraged in engineering campus in the past, now faced with bleak job opportunities in the changing economic scenario, they are welcoming whoever comes to the campus with a job offer.

"Major IT companies have gone to only limited number of campuses and where they have gone, they have cut down on the number of jobs offered. Start-ups have shown interest. But even as they interview 300 to 400 students, they only give offer letter to 2 to 3 students. The BPOs are coming to recruit students in large numbers and many are accepting the job offer, even as they try to get a better job offer in an engineering company," said Jenty Joy, vice-chairman of Consortium of Technical Institutes for Placement Services, Kerala and head (corporate relation) of SNG College of Engineering, Kolencherry.

Engineering colleges said that while the cream get offers from good IT firms, it is those with poor academic performance who have to settle for a job in the BPO. "Though all the students do appear for an interview in a 
BPO firm, only 10 % to 15 % accept the job offer," said Mahendra KS, placement officer, KMEA College of Engineering. However, to get a job in BPO, the student needs to be good in spoken English along with communication skills.

 


Most placement officers said that number of companies coming for campus placement has increased, the number of students who have been offered job has actually gone down. "So far 60 % students have got placement. Though this is a down from 75 % last year, the pay package has increased for many from Rs 3.5 lakh per annum to Rs 6.5 lakh per annum. It is IT and Computer Science students who are in demand," said Biju Paul, placement officer, Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology.

 


The companies are looking for students with specific skills and advanced training in java, android, ios is an added advantage. "They are not really interested in hiring an engineering graduate whom they have to train. They want students with skills," added Paul.

 


Also to familiarise their students with the industry, colleges are promoting internship program generally after the third year. "But even they have to clear a test conducted by the company for being selected for internship," added Joy.
