Procedure to recover photos from any android device even after photos are deleted from the device long back.


This can be used to get the photographic digital evidence from any android device

1.      Locate/find out the “THUMBNAILS” file extension files in android device usually this are hidden files stored in sdcard/DCIM directory and contains images indexed by the Gallery app and usually remains there for years and years till the time user don’t purposefully delete this files. Note this files are encrypted and usually you cannot see what’s inside it using normal applications.

2.      Copy all the files from this directory to your PC or laptop

3.      Go to following website “https://github.com/x0a/thumbdata3-viewer “

4.      One by one upload the files and you will be able to see the photos (in low resolution format) which you can download on your PC or laptop.

5.      Sometimes instead of “THUMBNAILS” file extension you can find “imagecache” types of files which also can be extracted using above web application.

6.      Even if you have any android device backup stored on usb,cd, dvd, or hard disk this files are present in backup

7.      I have not tried for apple devices and Microsoft mobile devices so I don’t know procedure for it
